EARTH’s inaugural class of 60 young men and women from six Central American countries entered the University in 1990. More than twenty years after the visionary idea for EARTH was conceived, the University’s leaders have remained faithful to its founding principles.
Of the 1,272 graduates, 84 percent have returned to their home country and 92 percent are still in Latin America. These leaders are continually promoting positive social change, working in the following sectors:
- Private Sector – 53%
- Personally Owned Businesses – 10%
- Family Businesses – 6%
- Non Profit Sector – 8%
- Governmental Sector – 12%
Additionally, six percent of EARTH graduates are in a graduate or other academic program while five percent are in transition.
Impacting communities where positive change is needed most, EARTH graduates are working in the following 24 countries:

In addition to working throughout the agribusiness, academic, non-profit and governmental sectors of their countries, these young leaders have become active in new policy-making processes and in developing their own businesses. By doing so, they are generating important transformations in their countries. The unique power of EARTH’s educational mission lies in the actions of its graduates as they work to advance environmentally and economically sustainable farming and natural resource management methods at all scales.
