EARTH is committed to guaranteeing its long-term financial viability. The availability of adequate financial resources is imperative for the University to fulfill its mission. To this end, the institution has five sources of funding:
• Income from EARTH’s Endowment Fund The endowment provides funding for half of the total cost of each student’s tuition, room and board. Donated by the U.S. Government and administered by a U.S.-based Board of Trustees, this fund’s main function is to support the cost of studying at EARTH for all students.
• Tuition The University requires that students with financial means provide full or partial payment of the second half of the tuition, room and board that is not covered by the endowment.
• Commercial Income Income earned by the AgroCommercial Business and Marketing Office provides financial support to the University, which includes sales of EARTH produce at Whole Foods Market stores throughout the United States.
• Other Income The sale of products and services provides additional funds to finance University operations.
• Fundraising EARTH engages in fundraising efforts directed at individuals, companies, foundations and governments around the world. Donations received fund University programs, tuition and expenses for students with limited economic resources.
“ EARTH University Foundation is a non-profit corporation organized under the laws of Delaware and determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be a Section 501(c)(3) organization with the classification of a public charity. Although it is legally independent under U.S. law from EARTH, its principal focus has been, is and will continue to be EARTH University, for which it raises funds and other support in the United States. EARTH University provides grants from its endowment to offset virtually all of EUF’s necessary expenses. EARTH receives contributions from U.S. donors both directly and through EUF, donors’ decision being based on their respective U.S. tax statuses and requirements. In most cases, U.S. donors support EARTH through EUF. In instances when the U.S. donor does not desire to take a deduction from income tax liability for the amount of the gift made directly to EARTH, their gifts can be made directly to EARTH. EUF has introduced EARTH to U.S. donors who make such direct contributions to EARTH. For these reasons, when assessing the performance of the Foundation, it is necessary to consider the overall fund raising results and related expenditures of the University. The following financial information is therefore presented with the permission of EARTH University.”
